Chula Vista Genealogy Society Special Meeting

"The 1950 U.S. Census – Are You Ready?"

Presented by: Thomas MacEntee

Due to concern about the corona virus, the city of Chula Vista libraries haves been closed.

All CVGS meetings have been cancelled at these facilities until further notice. The Libraries are now open to limited use and the Society is in the process of arranging use of rooms for our meetings. Until those  arrangements are finalized we will continue to meet on ZOOM.

So, join us this month for our general meeting on virtual meeting with Thomas MacEntee

If you are not already receiving invitations to our ZOOM meetings please contact Randy Seaver at: randy.seaver@gmail.com and request your invitation.

NOTE: This meeting was postponed on June 30 because of a medical emergency.

Many genealogists remember the excitement in April 2012 around the release of the 1940 U.S. Census. Following the “72 Year Rule” for records at the National Archives, the results of the 1950 U.S. Census will be made public on Friday, April 1, 2022. It’s never too early to prepare for this valuable data related to U.S. genealogy research!

Participants will get up to speed on the history of the 1950 US Census, why the 1950 U.S. Census form is radically different than previous forms, and how the data will be accessed. In addition we’ll cover what you can do NOW to prepare for the release of the 1950 U.S. Census as well as volunteer projects related to indexing and finding aids. Finally, we’ll cover how you can always get the latest information related to the release of the 1950 U.S. Census data!

Thomas MacEntee is a professional genealogist specializing in the use of technology and social media to improve genealogical research and as a means of interacting with others in the family history community. He is a blogger, educator, author, social media connector, marketer, network builder and more. Since 2009, Thomas has given over 1,000 genealogy-related presentations in person and online.

Register on the CVGS website for this meeting, and look for the email with the Zoom meeting link on about Monday, 20 September

Attendance is free but only 100 seat are available so please register soon.
