Steve Andres: "Midway Museum Presentation"

Steve Andres has been a Midway Museum Docent (Tour Guide) for over eight years.   He became a Museum Member after he retired from IBM in 2006 and then became progressively more involved in museum activities.  He coordinated the establishment of a Naval Academy sponsored Midway overnight program for youth education under the STEM initiative.    In 2008, he qualified for the additional responsibility of Docent of the Watch (DOW).   He has spoken to a number of groups interested in the Midway Museum as a guest speaker.  He values his two Midway jackets awarded for accumulating 1,000 and 2,000 hours of service.
Steve has a naval background.  He graduated from the Naval Academy in 1967 and served eleven years on active duty in submarines.   He served another five years in submarine intermediate maintenance in the Naval Reserve before becoming an Engineering Duty Officer (EDO) as a Commander.

He served in two command assignments at naval shipyards and at Naval Sea Systems Command which is the organization responsible for all the Navy’s warships and weapons systems.   He retired from the Navy in 1997 as a Captain after 30 years of service.

After eight years as a loyal Rotary spouse, Steve was attracted to the newly formed Naval Base San Diego Rotary Club in 2012.  He became a Rotarian three years ago and was the 2013/14 Club President of this only naval base Rotary Club in the world.

Steve is a member of a number of professional organizations among them:  The Navy League of the United States, the US Naval Institute, The Submarine League of the United States, Submarine Veterans Inc., the Naval Reserve Association, and the Military Officers’ Association of America.

He and his wife, Louise, reside in La Jolla.  They have two grown children and are the proud grandparents of two grand daughters and a grand son.

The meeting starts at noon with light refreshments followed by a presentation by our guest speaker.

Attendance is free
