We were sorry to hear our speaker was called out to care for a family member. Yes Family comes first.

We had 6 attendees, and a very interesting and lively discussion on three topics.

Susi talked about Descendant Charts and what they are and what they do.

A Descendant chart is a family group sheet with parents listed and children and then you do a chart for each child and their children color coding them for each child. Then when you are attempting to remember which child belongs to whom you can check the chart and find that Mary and Jack are children of Tom and Jeanne.   Then you chart Mary and Jack's family children and their partners.  So that will help you track your grandchildren and great grandchildren as the family grows.

We also talked about software that tracks or doesn't track modern day world. Of course, this happened many years ago also. But Shirley's new Reunion upgrade shows, parents, step parents, non marital parents and many new features.  She demonstrated some of the new features. Comparing this to RootsMagic and and discussed

We also discussed DNA and GedMatch. Bethel did a great explanation and showed us some of the features of GedMatch.

The nice thing was two other people sat and listened and actually asked a couple of questions and I gave them a Family Group Sheet to see and maybe use.

Missed Clayton B not being there tonight.

Our Speaker will be there for September instead.

This class will catch some important things we feel we did not address and hopefully clarify and help you to move forward more secure in what you are doing.

enclosed here in is  CVGS #101 class outline.

We are addressing these items from this outline. # 3, #4 and #5

You will need to bring binder of folder, acid free sleeves, some family records, pics, etc.

If you have done this bring at least one to show us.

We will be reviewing the topics and asking what you feel  you would like more of and what did you find most helpful.

Software will be further reviewed in future classes and Computer Classes.  We have covered & RootsMagic in class, and Ken Robison is doing FTMaker.

There are others to use also.

Hoping to review how you are doing with these steps presented.

    4)  What family records do you have? Gather family Bibles, letters, certificates, obituaries, papers, photographs, stories, published books, unpublished manuscripts, etc.

    5)  Start organizing your family material immediately. Start with a notebook or folder for your family, then another for your father's family, then another for your mother's family, etc. Add folders or notebooks for each added family. Or have notebooks/folders for specific surnames, or for specific surname lines, or for specific localities.

    6)  Use dividers to create sections of your folders or notebooks. If using a surname or couple system, use a section for each person, or each couple. Put original records (letters, certificates, etc.) in archival sleeves. Put all documents that pertain to a person or couple with that person or couple. Put loose items on a standard size paper.

    HI Genealogists and Historians,

We are attempting to refresh those whom know and educate those who are learning the ins and outs of Genealogical Research.

You may think you do not need this class, maybe you don't but it is advised you consider attending the first one to see if you are missing something in your research method or recording of your information.

Most speakers will tell you we are a product of our own Brick Walls. We repeat the same mistake not realizing it, we get excited and miss a point critically needed, we are human we make errors.  Brick Walls love errors.

We are hoping you will attend the first workshop to refresh your methods and types of resources for research.

You may want to hang around for the next level and later we will have an advanced level for all who feel confident in what they are doing.

Genealogy is a very fluid but stable field.  DNA seems to be following the same pattern.

Here is to seeing you at our Workshop on Thursday at the Bonita Sunnyside Library 1 to 3 pm.

     Thanks for your time.

     Speaking for the team.

I think Randy's hand outs themselves are worth the class, let alone, Shirley's or mine.  Many years of research knowledge being presented.
