May 17, 2022. Bonita Sunnyside Library Event

Wednesday, May 18, 2022 4:20 PM | Anonymous member (Administrator)

We had 8 people at our event 2 new people for attending. It was great. Jaye Wright came as did Sue M.

Again we learned Jaye thought we folded she never got a call or heard from anyone for a long time.  We are hoping she rejoins.

We discussed basically two topics this time but got a little bit in on sharing Research to find kin.

We discussed Maps and Timeframes for Research.  Then showed them the error in the NY Bio book I got this weekend. Fortunately have taught PA history for nearly 30 years now.

It is vital to know the attempted boundaries for an area when researching.

The person you seek may be there but not in the time frame map  or  dates you are looking at.

Our Country's boundaries and state boundaries changed greatly from the beginning to the end of development.

For Pennsylvania there is a book called :PENNSYLVANIA LINE . It was published by Southwest Pennsylvania Genealogical Services. Topic are "A Research Guide to Pennsylvania Genealogy and Local History. "

Sue M found a copy on A web site .  I have previously put one long ago in the library .

The maps of the counties really explain the situation and even seasoned researchers were surprised how well this book is laid out.

The county boundaries may have changed and they may be in a new county or different state some times just with boundary changes.

The other big topic was CRI whom has made lots of changes since I last saw the webpage.  Daughter came home filling out a DNA Medical paper for them from Dr advise.  Yes it gives basic data about your being.  7 things you should know.  Mine brought a chuckle to the group but it was right on as we all knew.

So we veered from deeper research to share some DNA knowledge and the various groups that are doing this research.

Because the room was small I did not put out the books I brought.  John I have some for you. Will see you soon.

Some of us found we all have same surnames in Rhode Island are going to try to get together and see what we can learn.

Thinking we may address some queries by state or region or country.

We are booked for the rest of the year for 3rd Tuesday of the month from 1 to 3 pm. No one responded when I asked 90+ people if we should change now that library open on Saturday.

Topics will be presented ahead of time as often as we can.  We do have to finish some things we started already.  See you soon.
