Chula Vista Genealogy Society General Meeting

"Discovering Jane's Roots"

Presented by: Randy Seaver

Due to concern about the corona virus, the city of Chula Vista has closed all libraries.

All CVGS meetings are cancelled at these facilities until further notice. As soon as we have any updates, our members will be notified.

So, join us this month for our general meeting on ZOOM virtual meeting with Randy Seaver presenter.

If you are not already receiving invitations to our ZOOM meetings please contact Randy at:

and request your invitation.

In this presentation, Randy will explore the research journey to find the ancestors of his wife's great-grandmother, Jane (Whittle) McKnew (1847-1921). Jane was born in Australia to parents who were born and married in England. She married in Gold Country, had a family of 11 children, survived the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, and died in San Francisco. Most of the research was done with online resources and in a collaborative environment. Come watch Randy unveil a fascinating family history worthy of a “Who Do You Think You Are?” television episode.

Randy Seaver has 32 years experience in researching his family history, with a fine New England, English and German ancestry, with a little Dutch and French. He has served CVGS as Treasurer, Program Chair, President, Newsletter Editor, Research Group and DNA Group leader. Randy has given more than 200 genealogy presentations to CVGS and other genealogical societies all over Southern California for the last 27 years.

In addition, he has taught the “Genealogy 101” course several times for CVGS and “Beginning Computer Genealogy” at OASIS since 2009. Randy writes the world renowned Genea-Musings blog (, started in 2006 after he retired from Rohr/Goodrich in Chula Vista.

Attendance is free but only 100 seat are available so please register soon.
